What kind of bike assembly is required when I ship a bike from REI to my home?

How much assembly is required when ordering bike online?  What parts are preassembled?  Is there a shipping charge if shipped to a store?

@AGATTS thanks for reaching out!

Every bike that we ship directly to customers is unboxed,  assembled, completely adjusted, and test-ridden by the dedicated bike mechanics at our distribution centers and store bike shops. Our mechanics then remove the pedals, front wheel and handlebars to package the bike for shipping to you.

Once the bike arrives, the process to put the finishing touches on your bike is fairly straightforward- we include tools and detailed instructions to get the job done, we have a video you can watch for assistance with assembly, and you can always reach out to for any technical questions or advice about the process.

When our stores are open, most bikes will ship to your local store for free. Currently, with our stores closed, bikes will need to to be shipped directly to your home, which does include an oversized shipping charge. With that said, we are just beginning to offer curbside pick-up in select locations, with the intention of expanding this service nationwide over time - you can check for participating stores, and read additional FAQs about curbside pick-up, here.

Let us know if we can help consult on the bike you're considering!

At REI, we believe time outside is fundamental to a life well lived.
