Electric bikes in PNW rain

Can you please tell me how electric bikes do in the rain? Specifically, I'm picturing a heavy northwest downpour catching me by surprise on my way home from work. As I intend to ride year-round, this might happen a lot.

Thanks for any information,

@yonflora Thanks for reaching out!

With a few considerations your e-bike should be able to handle any of the weather that the PNW can throw at it! In terms of what you can do to help keep your ebike performing in all conditions:

  • Install fenders on both wheels (if it doesn't come with them). This is help keep excess water and gunk from spraying up in the components of your bike.
  • Be sure to wipe down and dry off your bike after a ride in the rain.
  • If you're going to have to store it outside, make sure you have a cover to protect it from the elements.
  • Make sure you're keeping it running smoothly with annual (at a minimum) tune ups at your local bike shop.

Hopefully this helps, let us know if you have any other questions!

At REI, we believe time outside is fundamental to a life well lived.
