Hazel Crest is a working-class community that is committed to both its residents and its tree canopy. Located 26 miles south of Chicago's Loop, this majority BIPOC community contains areas with as little as 16% canopy cover, leading to heat islands, elevated flooding risks and poor air quality.
The tree canopy in Hazel Crest has also suffered heavy losses due to the invasive Emerald Ash Borer. With your help (and support from the US Forest Service), we'll be planting 40 trees of diverse species to replace dead and dying ash trees along residential parkways, helping to create habitat for wildlife and shady, attractive neighborhoods for generations to come.
No experience is necessary! Volunteers will help us dig holes, plant trees, mulch, and water.
