Tree Planting in Beans Park (Chicago) September 21, 2021!
Help the Chicago Region Trees Initiative plant 23 trees along Beans Park, part of the Burnham Greenway encompassing 7.68 acres in the East Side Community Area. In the late 1990s, the Chicago Park District participated in a unique partnership with the City of Chicago, Cook County, suburban communities, State of Illinois, and CorLands (the real estate affiliate of the Open Lands Project of Chicago) to create this linear park in Chicago’s East Side Community Area. The goal was to transform an abandoned stretch of Penn Central Railroad Company right-of-way into a greenway with a bicycle path.
These trees will enhance the beauty and quality of this unique recreational area in Chicago's 10th Ward. Volunteers will help us plant, mulch and water. This event is free and open to the public, but advance registration is required- the signup link can be found here.
All planting equipment will be provided. Please bring your own water. Close toe shoes and appropriate layers for the weather are strongly recommended.
