I'm looking for some good but not super crowded day hikes close to Chicago. Not Starved Rock, I've been there too many times and it gets too crowded. I really want to get out of the city and take a break out in nature.

A nice 11-mile loop is around Argonne National Lab; also known as Waterfall Glen.
The North Branch Trail is nice, because it has several parking spots across its length, and you can either walk or bike.
If you don't mind driving a little west, the Fox River trail is rather long too, and very pleasant to walk. An extra advantage is that it goes through several areas that have nice eateries, such as Batavia, Geneva, and Saint Charles, all the way up to Elgin.
