temp rating on my old REI cats meow sleeping bag from 1992.

I need to find the temp rating on my old REI cats meow sleeping bag from 1992.

I am finally ready to buy a new sleeping bag and need a light sleeping bag for backpacking in late may so there will be snow and need the sleeping bag a bit warmer than the one I have. But cannot find its temp rating. Can you help please. I don't want to get a 0deg one if I don't need one.

Thanks

Hi @RahilKim

Thanks for reaching out!  The Cat's Meow is a popular bag we have sold for years and I’m so glad you have been enjoying it for so long!  The bag is actually a North Face product and they might be the best ones to provide detailed info on older models. Their customer service can be found here The North Face  .

However, if you are looking for a new bag with a higher rating than zero, I have some recommendations.

Firstly, the Cat's Meow we currently offer can be found here The North Face Cat's Meow 22 . It is a 22 degree bag which might get you in the ballpark you are looking for.

I am also a big fan of Nemo sleeping bags. I am not sure if weight is an important factor for you, but I will be transparent in saying that this option will add a pound to your gear. Nemo Forte 20

Lastly, I have to recommend the REI Magma 30 . This is the lightest of the options and has a higher temperature rating which could prove to give you some versatility. It is a down bag while both of the others are synthetic.

If you receive some clarity on your existing bag's temperature rating, feel free to ask us more questions here in the community.  For now I hope this gets you started!

Hello @RahilKim,

It appears that the Cats Meow bag has typically been a 20 degree bag throughout the years.  However bags tend to lose some of their rating over time, so I would suspect it is not going to be as warm as it once was.  Hope that helps a bit!

In May, and maybe into September, I would think it would be ok, at least in the lower 48.  It should even work into late August in the Sierras.
