REI Co-op Half Dome 4 Tent Shock cord replacement

It's time to replace the shock cord on our favorite tent and I want to make sure I buy the right diameter cord. Can you tell me what size cord I need?

Here are the tent details:

Thanks for reaching out!

We encourage you to check out this other thread, Replacement Shock Cord for Half Dome 2, where the user had success with 1/8" shock cord. They do a great job explaining their process for getting the job done as well.

Hopefully this helps, thanks!

Thanks! The 1/8 inch cord was a success. We opted to use the method mentioned in the linked thread, using the old cord to help thread the new cord, but carefully marking the poles and threading it through works just as well once we got the hang of it.

The only "tricky" part was deciding how rigid and tense to make the cord. I guess we'll find out during our next adventure in a few weeks.

Hi @ejeyman - Thanks for sharing this follow-up with us!

Once you take your restrung tent out on your trip, we'd love to hear your feedback about the rigidity of the lines. That would be great info to be able to pass along to people who have the same question in the future!
