@kjsalathe Thanks for reaching out and welcome to the community!

Hey there, cousin! I hope you are well! I'm excited you're getting your family out camping this fall! We have a couple models of 6 person tents worth checking out:

  • Kelty Discovery 6 Tent. Our most economical 6 person tent we carry, this tent comes with 25 square feet of vestibule space and a full coverage rainfly. Two symmetrical poles make setting this tent up really easy.
  • REI Co-op Grand Hut 6 Tent. Not only does this tent have room for 6, but it also stands at 6' 6" tall inside, making it feel cavernous and providing more than enough room to stand up inside. It also has two doors and vestibules, giving you more space to store gear under the rainfly and making it easier for folks to get in and out of the tent.
  • REI Co-op Kingdom 6 Tent (also comes in an 8 person model). Not only does this tent have two doors, but it also has a divider to create two rooms inside the tent. It also has a roll up fly so you can increase airflow when it's not raining. You can also purchase add-ons for this tent such as the REI Co-op Kingdom Mud Room or the REI Co-op Kingdom Porch.

A few other considerations:

  • Most tents list the number of people based on laying 20" sleeping pads on the floor of the tent with a few inches of room on each side and no overlap. So most of these tents will be measured with five people sleeping across and one person at the bottom in mind.
  • None of these tents come with a footprint (the protective 'tarp' that is fitted to go under the tent). While not necessary, they are a great idea to protect the bottom of your tent from debris and moisture.
  • If space for your family is important, you could also consider purchasing two, four person tents like the Kelty Discovery Dome 4 Tents. Sometimes having a separate space for the kids is underrated.

Hopefully this helps, don't hesitate to reach out if you have any other questions!
