Join the A.T. Committee of the Appalachian Mountain Clubs Berkshire Chapter on Tuesday, August 6 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and spend the day improving a particularly muddy section of the A.T in Dalton, MA.
Placing and securing stones in the middle of a muddy Trail for hikers to walk across ensures that there is a consolidated impact on the trail environment. It encourages people to refrain from walking around wet sections of trail and helps promote the second Leave No Trace (LNT) principle of traveling and camping on durable surfaces. Prepared to get dirty? (There are also other ways to contribute if mud doesn’t look good on you.) Be sure to wear long pants and sturdy boots. Bring plenty of water and snacks for the day, as well as a lunch, sunscreen, bug spray, and a rain jacket.
