Questions about load weight for trekking poles

Hello, I just bought my first pair of ladies' Mountainsmith trekking poles, and now I'm looking at the loaded weight/hold strength on the back of the package. I know what loaded weight means, person + pack. I am 25# over that. I'm not actually backpacking anytime soon - more day hiking - and I need support in case I get in a jam. Since otherwise they are everything I need, can I keep them, or should I try an exchange? And, how can I check hold strength for an online purchase? Thanks!
