When I first layed everything out, the footprint was larger than the tent. Then I had it explained to me from a family member that for now-a-day tents, most require stakes to keep it tight unless it comes with sleeves, therefore with a tight tent (being pulled with stakes) the footprint must be the size of the tent when staked, to keep a tight position. That's why the footprint was bigger then the tent initially. When the tent is free standing however, the footnoting is too large and wont be tight. Must be staked for the footprint to fit correctly.
