Yea Gila!! One of my most fave places...Tell us more about your trip, please.

And don't steep on the nice little snakies...They get dreadfully pset....

@hikermor  well, for starters, huge (and growing) wildfire on west side of wilderness area, winds blowing mainly to the east/north east, I think as of today, almost the entire area is closed, but...we managed an out and back, with very little smoke, closed sections prevented taking our intended route...

The smoke has made it to the Pecos Wilderness in Northern New Mexico. There were fires in the Blue Range / Black River area West of the Gila beginning May 23rd.

Lightning is early for the Southwest. Severe drought covers the West outside of portions of Idaho and Montana. Danger. Travelers prepare to adjust plans for smoke, per usual.
