Big Agnes Tiger Wall UL 2p vs Big Agnes Tiger Wall UL 2p biker tent

I've noticed the BA Tiger Wall UL 2p is no longer available on REI website but the BA Tiger Wall UL 2p biker tent is available.  Thoughts on the last one for backpacking use since the other is not available through REI.  Thanks!

Looks like it was available.  The essential difference is that the biker tents have shorter pole segments so the tent can be accommodated on a bike more easily.  Consequently the tent is a little heavier.  I doubt there is much other performance difference.   They have the same dimensions.

Looking at the BA site it seems there is a footprint intended for the Bike packing tent although it works with the standard model, that extends to the vestibules where the backpacking footprint only underlies the tent body.

@Justhike Thanks for reaching out!

As it does not look like REI is carrying the Big Agnes Tiger Wall UL2 Bikepack Tent, we wanted to clarify that was the tent you were looking for or if you were perhaps looking at one of the other Big Agnes options. At this time, REI has the Big Agnes Fly Creek HV UL2 Bikepack Tent available for purchase. We have the Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2 Bikepack Tent on order and we are hoping to see those by the end of the year/early 2021.

As @OldGuyot pointed out, generally speaking, the 'bikepack' version of the Big Agnes tents have a few main differences from their 'regular' backpacking counterparts. The most notable is that the tent pole sections are shorter to accommodate fitting on the handlebars of a bike. The 'bikepack' versions also have a more robust compression sack with daisy chains for attaching it to your bike or strapping other gear on it. They also have some features like an elastic cord for holding your helmet to the outside of the tent (off of the ground). These features do add a small amount of weight to the tent. All of that is to say, a 'bikepack' version of one of the Big Agnes tents is suitable for backpacking.

Lastly, REI does have more Big Agnes Tiger Wall UL2 tents on order, we are hoping to have them back in stock by the end of January. Bear in mind that at this time there are many variables in shipping and processing timelines, so your best bet is to keep your eye on the website to see when those become available to purchase from REI.

Hopefully this helps, thanks!

At REI, we believe time outside is fundamental to a life well lived.
