What should I do if I am having trouble placing an order on REI.com?

I tried to buy the above Tilley hat and something went wrong during checkout.  I have a $40 gift card which I wanted to use.  I entered the card number and the $40 was applied to my total.  Then the checkout process blew up.  I went back in but when I tried to enter the gift card, I was told the card had already been used and it would only show the original total of $70, not the $30 after applying the $40 gift card.  How can I get my gift card back?  Or find someone live to check me out and apply the gift card?
