@Cat2 thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately, returns cannot be accepted curbside and will either need to wait until your local store reopens or be sent back via mail. We do anticipate reopening our stores in a phased approach across the country, with a few starting this week and more being added regularly. You can always check your local REI's store page for the most up-to-date information.
Hi, Since you aren’t doing curbside returns can someone just run in the store & drop them on the counter for me? There’s no reason for them to stand around while you process it, used PayPal & the returns slip is in there. Doesn’t seem like it’d be a big deal to call & leave the package outside in this case either.
@averymk thanks for the follow up question. Although our teams are working on some additional options for returns, currently the only 2 options for processing a return are through the mail or in-store; we are not able to accept and process packages left outside.
I'm also having the same issue. It's difficult to go into a physical store with my toddler that constantly pulls their mask off. Going into a post office would present the same issue.
It would be great if REI could reconsider this policy. Love REI and it's ability to do curb-side purchases---wish they'd extend the same convenience for the occasional return.

Would love to see an option for contact-less returns at the store! Returns by mail are not contact-less, so don't work for many customers in areas hard hit or under restrictions due to COVID.
Could customers package their return just like if they were mailing it, with a return authorization/return slip, and then drop it in a dropbox right outside the store?
Thank you for the question. Currently, we offer two options for returns: through the mail or in-store. While we appreciate the suggestion of a dropbox, we are not able to accept or process any packages left outside of the store at this time.
