(No RVs)camping and kayaking/canoeing in Virginia or Maryland

Four of us wanted to camp after a day trip of kayaking/canoeing. Two of us will return to DC but two other people want to stay overnight tent camping by a river (primitive and no RVs)  MD or VA and the distance is about one hour max because two of us have children at home. Where do you recommend?  Thanks!

It is not necessary by the river but for sure to stay away from the cities.  We wanted to hear no cars driving by all night long. Thanks!

@JoeJoseph thanks for reaching out! I would highly recommend also posting this on our DC board, as you will get a much broader audience from the entire community for ideas and suggestions!

Quick side note: even though you posted this question on the "Ask an REI Employee" board, you may get suggestions from other members of the community. We wanted to provide a friendly reminder that only posts from a member identified in their title as an REI Employee, REI Community Moderator and/or REI Community Manager should be regarded as employee-generated content.

At REI, we believe time outside is fundamental to a life well lived.

I would think you should be able to find something along the Potomac or Shenandoah rivers.
