Hiking boots

My wife and I are 65 years old and walk 2-4 miles a day.  We are looking for some light weight water resistant or water proof boots that can be used for hiking short (2-4miles) in Colorado in the summer.  We would also like these boots to be water resistant or water proof for playing and hiking in the snow.  We live in South Texas and get to Colorado 4 to 5 times per year.  Which boot would recommend and will we use our normal shoe size for the order?

Which boots are Newcomer?

@gmccord sorry for the confusion. "Newcomer" is an indicator of how much time you've spent in our new digital community - as you spend more time in the community, you will have different titles over time (these titles are mostly just for fun)! They are unrelated to the specific question you posted in the community. You'll notice that other community members are identified as a "S'mores Maker," "Wanderer," or "Casual Visitor." Again, mostly just for fun!

@gmccord thanks for reaching out! This is a really tough question to answer over the internet because we don't know enough about your feet! Are they wide, narrow or medium width? Do you have a wide toebox? What about your heel? Any feet issuess? And the volume of your feet?! We hesitate to make really specific boot recommendations over the internet without knowing more about the feet we're fitting. A few thoughts:

  • If it's at all possible, coming in to an REI store for a fitting would be ideal! You can book an appointment here if you wanted to ensure you have some time carved out for a fit. If you can't make it into a store, you might call your closest REI and speak with an employee in the footwear department - they can ask some questions about your feet and make recommendations with that information!
  • Here's an article that may give some helpful tips in choosing a hiking boot, although it won't guide you on specific boots to consider.

Hope that helps at least a little!
