Just curious, not a complaint, I noticed there are many classes and a conversation portal for women. Why doesn't REI offer anything for men?
Hey there, JR!
Thanks for reaching out.
The outdoors has not always been an equitable place for women. Over the years, REI has worked to ensure that the outdoors is for everyone by offering more women-specific gear, women-only events and classes, and as you have noticed, a Women in the Outdoors board here in the community.
Our Force of Nature initiative aims to broaden the narrative about who participates in the outdoors, and make those spaces "the world's largest level playing field.” Continuing on this path, we are currently advancing our efforts to eliminate unnecessary gender labels on gear, support organizations that promote inclusivity, and highlight diverse individuals and groups across our media.
Thanks for the response John. Appreciate the effort to make the outdoors equitable. But I'll politely offer that REI's well intended efforts for women, is now bias against men. The outdoors should united us, not divide us by gender. Thanks for listening, no response required, just one person's observation.
