Re: Community Outreach Event

Greetings from Mark Dodge at the Marion County Medical Reserve Corps in Salem, Oregon.

On Saturday, July 27th as part of the Governors' Action Plan for Oregon initiaitive, our volunteers are preparing to host an outreach event we are calling the 'Blackout Buffet'. This event will be held as part of our medical standby service at the Powerland Steam-Up in Brooks, Oregon. This event draws more than 30,000 spectators over the two-weekend run.

In this event, we are planning to demonstrate options for family preparedness and would like to share samples of products such as OMEALS, Mountain House and other brands of both shelf-stable and freeze-dried meals that could be part of a family 'Go-Bag' program. Items that could be sampled might also have a coupon or other recognition card to identify that these items are available at our local REI co-op store in the Keizer Station.

Your contribution towards this outreach event would be considered an in-kind donation and as we are a registered 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization (Friends of Marion County Citizen Corps - Oregon ID 1259119-90), the full-market value could be a charitable contribution. We will have this demonstration booth open for about 4-hours and expect between 200-300 spectators to visit us and learn about family preparedness.

For more information about the Medical Reserve Corps, please visit medicalreservecorps.gov and co.marion.or.us/emergencymanagement and for details about the Action Plan for Oregon, actionplanfororegon.gov

To my friends at REI, I can be reached by telephone at 503-341-9650 to arrange time to discuss this proposal in greater detail.

Very respectfully,

Mark Dodge

@MedicMark61 Thanks so much for thinking of REI as a partner for the Blackout Buffet. The co-op’s community gear donation program aims to supports US 501c3 nonprofit organizations whose missions are focused on caring for and increasing access to outdoor recreation places and/or connecting people to the outdoors through human-powered activities. Requests that align with this mission are eligible for co-op branded gear donations, but the budget is limited and we are unable to serve every request. While we admire the work Medical Reserve Corps is doing in the Brooks (and surrounding) community, we are unable to make a gear donation to your upcoming event. In general, REI’s gear donation decisions are made by the staff in our retail stores, so for future requests that align with our strategy, you would contact your local REI store.

At REI, we believe time outside is fundamental to a life well lived.
