Bike Chain Lubricant with Teflon

Dear REI,

In order to protect the environment, please consider not selling bike chain lubricant that contains Teflon.  Teflon is a type of polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).  PFAS can build up in our drinking water supplies.  It is difficult to get PFAS out of our drinking water and there can be harmful health effects.  The last time I shopped for bike chain lubricant at REI, I made sure to buy one that did not contain Teflon.  I hope that REI corporate will decide to ONLY offer various bike chain lubricants that are environmentally safe.

Thank you for bringing your concern to us.  We will pass your comment along to the appropriate team. We also encourage you to read our REI Product Impact Standards, updated last December. There is some information about PFAS contained in that document.

Hopefully this helps, thanks!
