Best Sleeping Bag for Kilimanjaro

Hello I am 6 ft tall and weight 185 - looking for a good deal on a sleeping bag that will go down to zero degrees that I will use on Mt Kilimanjaro in June  - what size should I be looking for?  Long?  XL?   thanks

@ddrakedo Thanks for reaching out and what an awesome adventure!

Six feet is generally where a 'regular' length sleeping bag maxes out so we would recommend going with a 'long'. It gives a little bit of extra room and allows you to stretch out fully if you want to. It is also beneficial, particularly on an expedition in colder temperatures, to have a little extra room in your sleeping bag to put items you would like to keep warm or dry out (socks, extra layers, etc). At 185 you won't need a sleeping bag that is wide unless you have really broad shoulders or like to toss and turn while you're sleeping.

Here are a couple of budget friendly options that may work for you:

  1. The North Face Eco Down 0 Sleeping bag.
  2. REI Co-op Down Time 0 Sown Sleeping bag.
  3. ALPS Mountaineering Aura 0 Sleeping bag.

If you're a member you can also keep an eye out for a sleeping bag at a garage sale at your local REI store as that can be an awesome way to score gear at a discount.

Lastly, we have a lot of members of our online community who are climbing Kilimanjaro this year! If you'd like to check out some of their posts and maybe offer some expertise or pick up some tips please check them out! The posts are entitled Kilimanjaro, Mount Kilimanjaro, and Question from a Beginner: where to start?.

Hope this helps, please come back and share your adventure with us!
