My son will be going to Philmont Scout Camp next summer and will be hiking for 12 days. He will need a minimum 60L capacity backpack. We have heard it is important to try out the backpack prior to purchase to make sure it is comfortable. Can you advise on your rental process or your "try out" process for backpacks. We are in Indianapolis. Thanks.

Hi @DavidIndy - Thanks for reaching out. It's exciting to hear that your son is gearing up for Philmont next summer!
We suggest visiting your local store and working with one of our expert pack fitters to see which pack fits your son best. In the store, they can show you different options and help determine which size and brand backpack works well for your son — often times by adding artificial weights to simulate a fully packed bag. If you would like to ensure someone will be able to go through this process with you upon your arrival, you can call the Indianapolis REI to ask about expected availability.
With our 100% Satisfaction Guarantee, once you purchase a pack, your son can wear it in the outdoors and even on trips to see that everything feels right. If the fit ends up being off, you can return that pack within a year of purchase to exchange for a better size.
While the process outlined above is the most common because of the larger options of backpacks to choose from, backpack rentals are also not currently offered at the Indianapolis location.
Hopefully this helps!
