I am planning a (solo) road-trip in Northern California, for early April. I have attached my tentative route. I am looking for exciting day hikes, one night hike, cool camping spot, hot springs and some points of interest.
Thank a lot.
Hi Kazi -
That's an amazing route you have planned for yourself, with plenty of opportunity to check out some really cool places along the way. While on the way north in California, be sure to stop at Lassen Volcanic National Park, Burney Falls and Mt. Shasta for some really amazing day hikes to three unique outdoor places.
One of my favorite places in Oregon is the Timberline Lodge, located in Government Camp, OR. It is a beautiful drive a short distance out of the way, on the leg from Portland to Bend. It is nestled at the base of Mt. Hood, and the exterior of the lodge is incredible - you may recognize the exterior, as it was used in the movie The Shining. There are tons of trails around the lodge to explore, and it is located right off of the Pacific Crest Trail, so an out and back day hike would be no problem to find. The historic hotel and it's legendary restaurant are only open to overnight guests due to COVID, but if you have a "splurge night" planned into this road trip, it's well worth it! If not, the hiking access is free, and the photographs will be priceless.
As far as hot springs go, the Umpqua Hot Spring, located in Umpqua National Forest is the number one hot spring in Oregon, and for good reason.
Hopefully this helps you out a bit. Your adventure sounds like it is going to be one for the books! All the best.
Thank you very much for all the valuable info. Lassen was already on my list and I am definitely going add the rest of them :). Umpqua looks like a MUST to go, probably on my way back to Portland.
