A whiff of strong instant coffee and smoldering campfire still brings\u00a0back the good old days, when you learned to start a fire with your bare teeth and clean fish with a pocket knife. You\u2019re a provider of the perfect cup of coffee, at sunrise, overlooking a mountain vista. How could\u00a0you have known that the spot you\u2019d chosen was beside a hill of fire ants? Was it your fault? You\u2019ve come to love that little flick, flick sound of a fingernail against the packet. One time, you skipped the JetBoil altogether and just brewed the coffee in your mouth. Sip while squinting thoughtfully at the horizon in moccasins and tossing a stick for your dog, Leonard Cohen, into the sea.<\/p>\n<h4>The Producer<\/h4>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-9552\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rei.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2016\/08\/C01-9814-worked-SL-2.jpg?resize=1024%2C526\" alt=\"coffee\" width=\"1024\" height=\"526\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You run a very tight craft. And you\u2019re as serious about coffee as a part-time barista at an indie espresso stand next to an indie movie theater on the brink of closing. The director needs three packs of stevia stirred by organic bamboo? No problem. The lead takes a cinnamon stick and a thimble of cream? Done and done. Nobody\u2019s ever gone without their weird fix on your watch, not even when you had to hike to a location in the Chilean Andes on snowshoes with nothing but a fleet of huskies and a Bic lighter.
