Here are a few tips that will help you keep your gear organized and in great shape from your driveway to the snow and back.<\/p>\n<h4>To Roof Rack or Not to Roof Rack<\/h4>\n<p>The first decision you\u2019ll have to make is whether you want to carry your gear on a roof rack.<\/p>\n<p>Pros:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Frees up space inside the car for people and gear.<\/li>\n<li>Gear is easy to load and unload.<\/li>\n<li>Rooftop storage can be useful year-round.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Cons:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A full roof rack system can be expensive up front.<\/li>\n<li>Racks and snow gear can cause loud wind noise while driving.<\/li>\n<li>Road spray and salt can damage your gear.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Packing Your Car<\/h4>\n<p>If you decide to pack your car full of gear, here are a few tips for maximizing space and keep things in order.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Start with a clean(ish) car.<\/li>\n<li>Make a list so you don\u2019t forget anything.<\/li>\n<li>Pack in reverse order (i.e. put the things you\u2019ll need first in last).<\/li>\n<li>Make sure you don\u2019t cover your winter car emergency kit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-151894\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rei.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2015\/12\/Ski-Car-2.jpg?w=600&#038;resize=600%2C400\" alt=\"Packing Snow Gear in Car\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Keep your ski or snowboard boots inside the main cabin of your car.
