Making a flower press <\/span><\/span>is an easy way to savor <\/span><\/span>a bit of nature, especially when\u00a0<\/span><\/span>you’<\/span><\/span>re spending more time indoors<\/span><\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Whether\u00a0<\/span><\/span>the buds<\/span><\/span>\u00a0are<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>from your garden, your neighbor\u2019s garden or a bouquet of cut flowers someone gave you recently, here\u2019s how to\u00a0<\/span><\/span>preserve a stem or two<\/span><\/span>\u00a0for yourself.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>As a\u00a0<\/span><\/span>gentle\u00a0<\/span><\/span>reminder<\/span><\/span>, make sure you\u2019re not pulling up a wildflower from the woods.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Here\u2019s<\/span><\/span>\u00a0a refresher on Leave No Trace principle<\/span><\/span>s<\/span><\/span><\/a>,\u00a0in case you need it<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

  • Scissors<\/li>\n
  • Picture frame<\/li>\n
  • Heavy books<\/li>\n
  • Tweezers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Directions:<\/h4>\n

    1. The Flower<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Picking the right flower is key. The color will fade once it\u2019s pressed so find a flower that\u2019s vibrant and freshly bloomed.<\/p>\n

    2. Preparation<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Trim away any unwanted leaves or stems. If it\u2019s a thicker flower, such as a rose, you\u2019ll want to split it down the middle with scissors or a knife, so it\u2019s easier to press.<\/p>\n

    3. The Paper<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Get some parchment paper, cardboard or even a coffee filter. Then place the flower between two pieces of paper, positioning it so the bloom is facing down.<\/p>\n

    4. The Press<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Find the biggest book you have, and place the paper with your flower in it somewhere in the middle and carefully close the book. Now, place other heavy objects on top of the book, such as a brick or more books.<\/p>\n

    5. Fertilize<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Change the paper once every three days. The flower will be dry in three to four weeks. If it doesn\u2019t have a papery feel, change the paper and let it sit longer. Once it\u2019s done, remove the flower very carefully (with tweezers, or your hands), as it will be very delicate.<\/p>\n

    6. Display<\/strong><\/p>\n
