How a Kentucky climber found untapped walls in one of America's most popular crags
For years, I'd be listening to my friend Heath Rowland raving about the potential for new-routing in the Red. Rowland, a Kentucky native, has been climbing there for years, and for the past several, has been devoting most of his time to ground-up first ascents in unexplored areas of the Gorge. Most of these climbs aren’t in the standard guidebooks or even on Mountain Project. And they're done entirely on gear.
It's adventure climbing in it’s truest form, sprouted from time in the Red, a place where sport climbing is the main attraction.
