Comments about Asolo Power Matic 250 NBK V Hiking Boots - Men's:
I finally had to replace my much loved 25yr old Raikle backpacking boots. I don't backpack any more, but take long day hikes over fairly rugged terrain with a day pack.
Over the past several years I've tried several less expensive, light weight trail boots and shoes with so-called "modern technology" combining fabric, glued-on reinforcements, flimsy lacing set-ups with gromets that pull out. They all wear out and fall apart and never seemed worth repairing. I also missed the comfort, support and protection of the heavier boots.
I decided to bit-the-bullet and spend the money on a quality boot. I tried on several similar all leather boots gradually working up in price. When I got to these boots, the differance was like night and day. I guess it's true; "you get what you pay for".
I've only had these boots for a short time, but my feet instantly felt at one with them. The construction appears impecable and rugged. They remind me of my old boots and if they last as long the price tag will certainly be less than several pairs of lesser quality boots.

Comments about Asolo Power Matic 250 NBK V Hiking Boots - Men's:
I do 2-3 hikes every week, 3-10 mile range, carrying anything from a fanny pack to a 25 lb day pack. The boots are used for recreation and wilderness rescue operations. I hike in the Southern Appalachians where you have a variety -- rocks, scrambling, bogs, wet crossings, steep ascents/descents, snow, ice, mud, gravel, roots and the occasional nice, flat roadbed.
They are superior to the Vasque Sundowners I used for almost 20 years. Without the Gore-Tex, they are more breathable but treated right still waterproof. Slightly higher boot for more stability and ankle protection. The lacing system cinches in great and stays secure longer. Almost no break in time needed. The tongue is better designed than any boot I've worn. Could be improved with more toe protection to protect the leather, but that can be purchased as an accessory. Worth the investment.

Comments about Asolo Power Matic 250 NBK V Hiking Boots - Men's:
I have an 11.5 foot and usually hike in a 12 boot. However this 12 was just too small and they don't make a 12.5. A 13 was too big. I was disappointed and returned them but wish I could have made them fit as they were the best full leather non GTX boot I could find.

Comments about Asolo Power Matic 250 NBK V Hiking Boots - Men's:
I bought these in an 11.5 for backpacking and hiking. The fit was comfortable, even a bit snug. I wore them on a few hikes and determined that the contact on my toes on the downhill was trouble in the making, so I exchanged for a 12. Before even taking them out on a hike I was evaluating them at the house and realized that they just wouldn't work. The length was fine, but the volume of the boot was HUGE. It was as if I had gone up at least one full size; I was swimming in them. I have a narrow, lower volume foot around the arch and a wider ball of the foot. If you typically wear an 11.5-12, be prepared for sizing difficulties. Otherwise, the construction and low weight seems to have a great boot. Unlike many backpacking boots, there is very little break-in period required.
REI honored the no-hassle return which was nice.
