Comments about New Balance 966 Leather Country Walker Shoes - Men's:
This is an attractive looking leather shoe, but the nylon mesh lining wears out in the heel quickly. Once the lining wore through the hard plastic heel cup chafed my socks until they developed holes.

Comments about New Balance 966 Leather Country Walker Shoes - Men's:
This is a good shoe. Most comfortable I have ever owned. I used it all over Greece one summer (wish they made same model, cheaper, and with no Gortex liner for hot climates). The insole is nothing special so, after a few months, you have to drop in a better one. Also, the use of smooth leather around the toes means it gets scuffed very soon and only gets worse. The padded sole near the heal is also not durable enough for hiking. It is soft running type of material and gets nicked, cut, and chipped. Laces only lasted a year. Hard to find proper replacement. So in the end, you have a great pair of shoes that are very comfortable but that don't handle wear very well. Price is a bit too high. I think [$] would be better for what you get. Wait for a sale.

Comments about New Balance 966 Leather Country Walker Shoes - Men's:
Comfortable most of the time except after sitting for prolonged periods. A seam across the tongue causes an irritation on the top of my foot. Get rid of the seam and the shoe would get 4 or 5 stars. Won't be replacing with the same unless the seam is gone.

Comments about New Balance 966 Leather Country Walker Shoes - Men's:
My wife and I have used our 965's a lot. They are wonderful in speargrass country as they keep out sharp seeds and are particularly good for orienteering in damp conditions (I hate wet feet after 100m). Also I wore mine for some geological fieldwork in the Simpson Desert 12 months ago when we traversed 12 to 20 km a day- and no blisters or sore feet.So far my new 966's are shaping up to be just as good.
