REI Asheville's community room is dedicated full time to free REI clinics and presentations, local non-profits and outdoor clubs. Non-profit groups and anyone gathering socially to inspire outdoor adventure and stewardship may use this room that seats 45 people for free! REI Asheville's community room has a digital projector and screen as well as a PA system available for use.

The Hands-on Bike Maintenance class is a 5-hour class taught by expert REI technicians and will cover the following topics: frame inspection, hub adjustment, lateral wheel true, bottom bracket adjustment, pedal mounting, crank arm mounting, chain inspection, derailleur adjustment, cable/housing inspection, headset adjustment, brake adjustment, and suspension system inspection.

Bring your own bike and get plenty of hands-on bike maintenance experience. Cost: $75 Members, $100 Non-members.

Maintaining your road or mountain bike can be a daunting task when you don't know where to begin. Join REI bike technician for this free one hour basic bike maintenance class.

Topic include: installation/removal of wheels, flat tires/tubes, bike cleaning, lubrication, and fine tune brake adjustment using barrel adjusters.

Be part of a musical tribute to the Blue Ridge Parkway on its 75th Anniversary and celebrate a decision that changed the face of Western North Carolina - the decision in November 1934 to route the Blue Ridge Parkway through Asheville! The concert features award-winning singer/songwriter Nanci Griffith as well as a one-time-only collaboration of the Blue Ridge Bluegrass All-Stars showing their support for the Parkway - renowned musicians Doyle Lawson, Sammy Shelor, Bryan Sutton, Tim Surrett, and Jim Van Cleve. The dramatic and colorful Warriors of AniKituhwa will also perform, and the entire evening will be hosted by Asheville's own Grammy award-winning musician David Holt.

Concert tickets are available at the Asheville Civic Center Box Office at 87 Haywood St. or Ticketmaster. Two reserved seating ticket options are available.

The Girls on the Run fall curriculum is underway and they are preparing for the big finale the girls have been working towards, the 5K!

Please save the date for Saturday, December 12, 2009 for the new balance, Girls on the Run 5K at UNCA.

If you want a fun, rockin' service project - this is it! GOTR are especially in need of running buddies and course support as the run is very difficult for many of these young girls GOTR wants them to "feel the love." All this requires is coming out and cheering on the girls.

A running buddy escorts GOTR girls in the achievement of their 5K event. They provide encouragement and lots of high-five's throughout the race and especially at the finish line.
