P.E.A.K. (Promoting Environmental Awareness in Kids) is designed to teach kids of any age the importance of respecting one's environment through the 7 basic principles of Leave No Trace.
The PEAK program was developed as the result of a unique partnership between REI and the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics. PEAK is based on the seven principles of Leave No Trace. This hands-on, interactive program teaches children to have fun outside while practicing responsible outdoor recreation. The PEAK program, which consists of an REI backpack stuffed with essential gear for outdoor adventure, as well as games, activities and lessons, is presented as a convenient and fun way to teach young people environmental ethics.
The program is perfect for Scout troops, school groups, camps, classroom or any group of kids who want to learn and have a great time doing it! An REI trained P.E.A.K. instructor, can lead a program revolving around the 7 principles of Leave No Trace to you group. Groups are welcome to come to the store for this free program. For camps and schools REI might be able to come out to your location. For information on how to have an REI employee provide a PEAK presentation for your organization, contact Margie Martinson at mmartin@rei.com or 630-574-7700.
The Seven Leave No Trace principles are:
1. Know before you go
2. Choose the right path
3. Trash your trash
4. Leave what you find
5. Be careful with fire
6. Respect wildlife
7. Be kind to other visitors
