The derailleurs on your bike are lever activated mechanisms that move the chain from one sprocket to another. This changes the gear ratio of the bike.
The front derailleur consists of a cage that can be moved from side to side, forcing the chain to move from one chain ring to another.
In addition to moving laterally to change gears, the rear derailleur has a spring loaded lever arm that keeps the chain taut as it is moved onto smaller gears.
During the class, derailleur specifications will be explained. Both derailleurs will be cleaned and lubricated, and then they will be inspected for proper positioning, security, and will be adjusted as necessary.
After completing the derailleur tune up, we?ll look at bottom bracket adjustments, proper chain length, operation of the shifter levers, and the length and lubrication of the cables that tie the shifters to the derailleurs.
We?ll finish the class with a test ride to check your work!
