Backpacking 102 Field Day

Start the day by learning how to properly pack and wear a pack. Next we will hike about four miles with fully loaded packs. Along the hike you will learn tips on how to hike with a full pack. Then learn campsite selection and placement. Next we will fire up the camp stoves and cook a meal, while sharing info on food storage, clean up and camp kitchen set up. Finally, we will break camp, repack and hike back out.

REI provides packs, food, camp stoves, and all gear needed. Please dress for the weather and where hiking shoes or boots. Even with mild rain and/or cold the program will still continue.

Participants will need to bring water and eating utensils and a plate. Please dress for the weather.

Program starts at 9am and goes until sometime between 2pm and 3pm. Program meets in the parking lot at the Thunderbird Youth Camp Parking Lot.
