Ongoing Event Information

Here is a list of the 2009 Grant Recipients in the Orange County Market:

1.) Orange County Council, Boy Scouts Of America Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center
$4,976.00
Camper Education Project
The Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center will use REI's grant to implement a Camper Education Project beginning fall 2009 for new registrants in Girl Scouts, Campfire USA, Boy Scouts, YMCA groups, school groups and other community groups with interest but minimal experience in camping and other outdoor activities. The project will help thousands of youth and their families to have positive and environmentally responsible experiences as first-time campers. The project will incorporate REI's PEAK program principles and will ensure that participants enjoy the experience as much as possible through understanding gear, meals and activities that they can enjoy during their group excursions. REI's funds will provide loaner gear for first-time campers who do not have their own equipment.

2.) Boys & Girls Club Of Tustin
$3,000.00
Hiking Club
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Tustin's Hiking Club program will lead youth on thirty hiking and outdoor education trips in Orange County, CA throughout 2009-2010. This program takes club members into the natural areas of their community and uses the outdoors as a classroom. Club members will learn to appreciate and respect wilderness and open spaces along with many other lessons about plants, animals and ecosystems. REI's grant for this program will assist with transportation and program leadership costs to ensure that all children have an opportunity to participate regardless of family income.

3.) Social & Environmental Entrepreneurs See Inc

REI's grant will be immediately implemented to purchase needed tools and equipment to improve upon The Bicycle Tree's service capabilities, and to develop and produce promotional materials to draw greater numbers of participants.
