Happy Hiking with Dogs - REI Downtown

Melissa Gaskill, author of Best Hikes with Dogs: Texas Hill Country & Gulf Coast, will discuss dog-friendly and fun hikes convenient to Austin, Houston and San Antonio. Outings range from easy strolls to overnight backpacks, most with shade and water, and a leash-free area. Get tips on preparing for hikes; keeping your dog safe, healthy and hydrated on the trail; and what to pack.

Melissa Gaskill has hiked and camped around Texas for more than 20 years with her family and dogs, most recently Keeper, a black Lab, and Max the Mutt, a rescue from the Austin shelter. She writes for magazines on a variety of topics, including travel, nature, and the outdoors.
