New REI Animal Policy
Free

One of REI's primary goals is to provide a comfortable and welcoming shopping experience for all of our customers. REI recognizes that many of our customers are allergic to or not comfortable around animals. Effective April 5, animals will no longer be permitted inside REI stores (with the exception of service animals). Sales specialists will be happy to bring related pet products outside to fit your pets appropriately. We appreciate our customers' understanding as we adopt this new company-wide policy. Please contact REI management, (713)353-2582, if you have any questions.

REI Kid's Passport to Adventure
Free

Show kids how rewarding it can be to spend time in the outdoors. That's what our Kids' Passport to Adventure program is all about. Designed for kids age 5-12, it's a fun way to connect them to the natural world and start them on a lifetime of outdoor recreation and stewardship.

Here's How it Works
At the center of the program is the Adventure Journal, where kids can document their adventures?from bird watching and hiking to kayaking and climbing. Stop by the Customer Service desk at your local REI store to pick up an Adventure Journal.

Earn a Prize
After at least one outdoor activity, send in the tear-off postcard from the journal to get a certificate of completion and a special prize?a multifunction whistle that includes a thermometer, magnifier and compass.

Share the Fun

Getting out on the steams, lakes, bays and rivers in a kayak, can be a peaceful and meditative experience. Plus, it?s a great way to keep your cool in the hot summer months. Luckily, there are lots of places in the Houston-area to take advantage of this sport. We not only look at places to go, but also what kind of gear and equipment you will need when going out. Everything from flotation devices to oars, we will get you going on your journey down on the bayou. We aren?t called the Bayou City for nothing!

BCO & REI present Organic Houston 101
Free

Join REI & Bayou City Outdoors in our summer series "How to Get Into the Outdoor Life".

Discover Organic Houston. Everywhere you turn these days, people talking about going "Green". What does that really mean? Going Green is more than just recycling your aluminum cans. It's an ideology and philosophy about saving the planet through our activities and lifestyle. We will explore some of those activities and what you can do to go "Green" in your own life. It is the small things that add up to big change, such as shopping at farmer's markets, riding your bicycle as transport, reusing instead of just recycling and maybe even composting. Even buying local can help to change the planet!

Supporting farmer's markets and eating organic are two of the best ways to make a difference in your health and your world. We will even cover some of the companies that are working to make a difference, locally and globally. But, in the end it?s all about doing what we can and enjoying how we do it! Handouts included (on recycled paper of course). Let's make Houston "Green"!
