7/30/2009 6:00 PM Advanced Bicycle Maintenance: Caliper, Cantilever, and Linear Pull Brakes $

We?ll cover several different types of mechanical brake systems: caliper, cantilever and linear pull.
Caliper brakes are a self-contained unit which attaches to the bike frame at a single point. Cantilever brakes have independent arms attached to the frame on either side of the wheel. Linear pull brakes are cantilever brakes designed to be activated from one side, rather than by a center pull mechanism. This will be a hands-on clinic so bring your bike clean!
