Product Recall: Novara Afterburner Trailer BikeJuly 19, 2007 Dear REI Member, Recently we notified you by mail about a potential safety defect involving the Novara Afterburner children’s trailer bike that you purchased at REI earlier this year. Since that communication we began working with the Consumer Product Safety Commission to more widely communicate our safety concerns, and have moved forward in identifying a repair solution for the quick-release mechanism that attaches the Novara Afterburner trailer bike to the lead bike seat post. The purpose of this letter is to let you know that the replacement part is taking longer to produce than originally thought, and to apologize for the delay. Please know that we’ve worked to develop a positive solution that meets our high expectations and is easy to install. We expect to mail the part to you soon, along with detailed instructions for easy installation. However, after you receive the replacement part in the mail, you are welcome to take the part to your nearest REI store if you prefer not to do the replacement yourself.
While our concern for the safety of children who may be using this product is most important, we also realize the inconvenience that this voluntary recall and the replacement part delay may have caused. As such, we’ve enclosed a $25 REI gift card as a token of our appreciation. Thank you for your attention to this matter, and for your patience. In the meantime, please contact us at 1-800-426-4840 between 4 a.m. and 11 p.m. PT seven days a week with any question
Regards,
