At the National Bike Summit in Washington, D.C. last week, Bikes Belong announced grants to five grassroots groups committed to establishing Bicycle Friendly Communities. Through partnerships with REI and the League of American Bicyclists, the REI Bicycle Friendly Communities grant program supports non-profits that are working with local governments and planning departments to make urban areas safer and more welcoming to cyclists.
This year’s recipients include Bicycle Alliance of Minnesota (Minneapolis, Minn.), Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia (Philadelphia, Penn.), Cascade Bicycle Club (Seattle, Wash.), Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Michigan Trails and Greenways Coalition (Detroit, Mich.). Each group will receive between $15,000 and $20,000 to support work in their communities.
