But I had to keep pedaling. The bitter cold rain was an unwelcome surprise, especially since it was July in the southeast... ...
Got cabin fever? Hiking doesn’t have to be a spring-through-fall activity in cold-winter locales. Just strap on some snowshoes and go. Last weekend, I joined the REI Outdoor School on one of their Introduction to Snowshoeing classes in Southern California’s San Jacinto State Park. Are you fairly new to hiking but with a big hiking goal in your future? In Southern California, lots of hikers dream of summiting Mount Whitney (14,496'), the highest point in the lower 48 states. But last Saturday's inaugural "Winery Touring by Bike" day trip led by the REI Outdoor School turned out to be right up my alley. That's right, we toured wineries using mountain bikes. (Yes, I know what you're thinking and, no, nobody got drunk or crashed their bike into an arbor.) The REI Outdoor School is offering this and other such trips in response to customers asking for fun and informative outings close to home. ...
