Is it possible to make a great movie about backpacking? If the first trailer and second trailer for the upcoming Mile… Mile & A Half movie are any indication, I’d say yes! Despite a lack of daredevil stunts and the inherent monotony of backpacking, the trailers’ dazzling scenery and group camaraderie—and outstanding production values—make this surprisingly enjoyable. ...

How long does it take to plan a hike on California's John Muir Trail? In my case, it took 30 years and some serious life changes. My hike of California's 211-mile John Muir Trail was a long time coming. Some 30 years long, in fact, thanks to the life changes I shared in my previous REI Blog post.
