Comments about Salomon X-ADV 6 Cross-Country Ski Boots:

I bought these boots because they were a good fit for narrow feet. Coupled with the Salomon XABC binding, boot provides secure control in all conditions. I'm prinicipally a downhill skier and with this combination I ski confidently on backcountry trails, using much of my second-nature alpine technique. The one drawback is the tightness of the top of the boot; a women-specific design might mitigate this. I added a heel shim to adjust the fit by getting the top of the boot below my calf.

Comments about Salomon X-ADV 6 Cross-Country Ski Boots:

This boot fits like past Solomon BC boots I have owned. I feel the SNS BC system is superior to NNN BC in heal lift freedom and am glad Solomon continues to produce their BC product. The SNS XA fits a little looser into older Solomon BC bindings - but once locked there is no noticeable skiing performance issues. I experienced no break-in period and enjoy the ability to go through 6" of new Snow w/o gaiters due to the nice fit of the exterior covering. The boot was very warm. The one pull lace system is unique, easy to use even w/ gloves on and cinches down well as it pulls from heal, sides, and top all at once. The waterproof "cover" is a dark gray with a slight green tint - sharp. Like most alpine and Nordic ski boots, replacing the cheap flat insoles with a pair of heal cup and arch support insoles makes big improvements for most people.

Comments about Salomon X-ADV 6 Cross-Country Ski Boots:

These boots were great at first. I was really excited to have such a sturdy boot that was waterproof and had really good traction. My feet stayed warm and dry and at first they felt comfortable but as I started taking longer trips (a few miles) they began to feel uncomfortable. I tried a different insole and went for an 8 mile trip and by the end I was almost in tears and was practically sprinting back to the car just to get the boots off of my feet. It has been more than 24 hours and my feet still hurt! Inside of the boot, you can feel a ridge along the instep where the exterior plastic cuff protrudes into the foot bed. I have flat feet so this caused major discomfort. Not sure if it would work for someone with a normal arch or not. Thankfully, REI took them back. I'm bummed that these boots were so uncomfortable because other than that major design flaw, they seem to be pretty good boots.
