Comments about Patagonia Down Sweater - Men's:

This light and very warm jacket quickly became my go-to garment for all around wear this winter. It has a great combination of warmth, light weight and low bulk. I used it downhill Skiing in the UP when temps were in single digits and it was very warm. It is amazingly light. On the flip side, I'm not sure it would stand up to extended use in tough conditions, but that's not what it was built for. Highly recommended.

Comments about Patagonia Down Sweater - Men's:

Other than the lack of durability, this jacket is pretty much perfect and as described. I suppose Its hard to get that desired durability when trying to be lightweight. I firmly support the purchase to anyone though.

Comments about Patagonia Down Sweater - Men's:

Frankly, I expect more from Patagonia. The fit of this sweater is poor - it is cut to fit a guy with a substantial beer belly, not a fit outdoorsman. More importantly, though, is that there is insufficient down to fill the draft tubes. It doesn't hold its loft. Another ounce of down would have made the difference, I'm sure.

Comments about Patagonia Down Sweater - Men's:

Not sure how waterproof this is, although I didn't buy it for wet conditions as I live in Arizona. However this is the best jacket I've owned, it is super light and really keeps you warm. I was in 10 degree weather (Fahrenheit) and only had a tshirt and the jacket over it and I was warm.

An amazing jacket. Light, warm, and has excellent movement around the arms. Spent three hours snowshoeing in 15 degree weather and thought the jacket's performance was top notch.

Comments about Patagonia Down Sweater - Men's:

I just finished plugging the holes in mine with repair tape (Tenacious variety), so there you go one con: while indeed ripstop it still is fragile enough to be kept well away from any ice tool, screws, etc. Use it while belaying or in camp only, also because it's practically not breathable at all. Finally, it's waterproof for about five minutes and then it quickly goes down to sopping wet and zero insulation. One downpour taught me to carry it in a compression dry bag and treat it like the ultimate survival item.
Evertything else it's been said here about fit, warmth and lightness is very true and hence I still highly recommend it.
Experience: used two over two years, lost one in a crevasse, took the other on several summits and ice climbing routes.

Comments about Patagonia Down Sweater - Men's:

This jacket has taken the spot at the front of my closet. Great for both hiking and casual use. Compresses well so you can throw it in your daypack or carry-on just in case.

After 2 years, there are no durability issues to report. Worked like a champ across Europe under a pack. Also stood up fine to geocaching off-trail in the woods. Still looks great.

The jacket is nearly waterproof. Only managed to get the down interior wet once, after 2+ hours of hiking in constant rain.

The only single complaint is that it is so lightweight that putting normal objects (camera, gloves, snack) in the pockets makes the jacket feel uneven and sag to one side.

Layered with fleece, I am quite comfortable into the lower 30s.

Comments about Patagonia Down Sweater - Men's:

This is a piece of clothing that fulfills some specific functions very well. It works for me in camp on cold mornings and evenings, to boost the insulating power of my summer-weight sleeping bag, and in very cold conditions as an outer layer. Like anything made of down, it will become useless if you get it wet. It's lightweight and packs down nice and small, but I wouldn't buy it to use in the city, since you're paying for the low weight and compressibility. It's not what you'd want for something like McKinley, but for example I'm comfy sitting around camp in it when temps are a little below freezing, if I layer it with a wool base layer and a lightweight wool sweater. I like the strategy of layering a relatively lightweight down puffy like this with some layers of wool, rather than depending solely on a thicker, super-warm puffy that would become useless in rain.
