Comments about Arc'teryx Beta AR Jacket - Women's - 2012 Closeout:
I purchased this jacket to wear over layers for biking through the Chicago winter. I have had it for only a few weeks but I'm pretty in love with it. We've been through a few showers together now, both on bike and walking, and it has really made a huge difference.
I am 5'6", US size 12ish, and a size large fit well with room for layering underneath and roomy enough to move around.
While not specifically designed for bicycling, the sleeves are long enough and the jacket itself goes just past my hips, providing plenty of coverage. The hood fits over my helmet and adjusts really quickly and easily so I still have a fine range of vision.
It is absolutely waterproof. The seams are all very well taped and the zippers are super tight. The hood has a nice little brim so water falls right off it.
I have worn it with just a long sleeve cotton tee and cotton sweatshirt underneath through temps well down into the 30s and it's plenty warm. It is totally windproof, and though I have used the pit zips to cool off, it doesn't seem to get clammy at all. The jacket zips up just past my chin so my neck is protected from the wind too. I'm pretty confident I'll be able to use it all winter with different layering combinations and stay warm and dry the whole season.
I can't speak to durability, but the jacket seems well made and I think it'll hold up well. Time will tell! For now, it seems well worth the price.
