I bought this for use with the Hero 3+ Black Edition. I have been a user of the GoPro hero HD since it came out and had a battery bacpac for it. In making the upgrade to the Hero 3+ (purchased from REI) I wanted to get the same additional battery life as I had with the Hero HD. But there are several things wrong with this product. First, the Hero HD bacpac had a removable battery of the same type as used by the camera itself. This allowed more flexibility with battery use as well as providing a way to charge a battery that was not in the camera – the bacpac itself could be used as a mini USB charger for batteries for the camera or bacpac. The design of the Herop 3+ bacpac is such that the battery is integral to the bacpac - it cannot be removed and is therefore much less flexible. Neither can it be used as a battery charger. Second, there is some kind of firmware problem - when the battery bacpac is on the camera and becomes fully discharged, it automatically turns the camera on, whether you want it or not. If you turn the camera off manually, or it turns itself off if set that way, it will automatically turn itself back on. It will do so until the camera battery is also dead. Upon contacting GoPro about this, I was told it was a "known" problem although I had never read anything or been otherwise informed about it. Perhaps this will get fixed with a firmware update but until then it is counter-productive to use the bacpac. And third, the older and better, Hero HD battery bacpac fits the Hero 3+, preserving its flexibility and the camera battery life. Although the batteries are not the same between the HD and the 3+ cameras, the HD bacpac with the older style batteries fits - all you have to do is substitute the HD's larger bacpac camera back that came with the HD bacpac. If you already have an HD bacpac, you don't need this one and are actually better off. If you don't have an HD bacpac, wait until they get this one right.
