After getting used to wearing them, they are quite comfortable. I like how light in wieght they are. Good for climbing, I can feel what I'm stepping on and where the edge is. Traction is great. Easy to clean. Made my feet healthier and stronger. I used these for tough Mudder and framing at work (construction). They aren't steel toe so I couldn't wear them at work any more. Otherwise I would probably be wearing at work again.
  • Best for day hiked

My Spyridon's arrived yesterday and I was super excited. I own a pair of KSO's ( size 42) and Bikila Evo's (size 43) so that I could wear them with socks in the winter months. I ordered a 42 in the Spyridon MR's because I wanted them to fit snugly without socks. I will be participating in the Rugged Maniac Mud Run, the Wipeout Run, and the Spartan Sprint. I wanted a shoe that would provide great traction and could get wet and muddy and not slip off my feet. When I first put them on, they were very tight. I did not like how snug they were at all. My foot filled the entire shoe. I walked around my house in them and was unhappy. I contemplated sending them back and ordering the 43. I took them off and repackaged them. I do not want to wear socks on the mud runs so I took them out of the box and tried them on again. This time, I wore them outside and walked to the pool in them. They seemed to be loosening as I walked. They still felt like a glove, but it wasn't uncomfortable at all. I have two weeks until my first mud run and I will be wearing these every chance I get so that I can break them in. That part seems to be mandatory. I am a 5'10 270 lbs, 31 year old female. These shoes aren't very pretty and I can't wear women's vibrams. REI doesn't carry these in black. However, mud is brown and nasty so I guess the color of the shoe doesn't really matter. I am excited that I have a shoe that I can wear that can tolerate any surface I run on.

I have been running barefoot on both roads and trails for a long time now, and my feet are very rugged. But that limits my run distance to a little over ten miles, and puts me at risk for stepping on something. I decided to continue running barefoot on paved road and get these shoes to ensure that I wouldn't step on anything when running trails. I am very happy with these shoes. I was a little worried the first time I used them. They didn't give me blisters, but that may have happened if I had continued further than the 5 miles I went. However, since then I haven't had any risk of blisters. The feeling is not much different than running barefoot. Its like having rubberized bare feet that can easily handle rocks on trails. Back when I used to wear shoes, I had a favorite trail run loop that I did frequently. I didn't like running that loop barefoot because the truck road that links the trail to the street is covered in rocks. With these barefoot shoes I can once again run that route no problem. Very pleased with them.

Make running fun again! It's been a long time since I've looked forward to a run, but these have me thinking about it everyday while I'm at work. First things first. My initial concern: Are they too tight? When I first put these babies on my left toe feels like its being gripped by a 10' Boa. I'll be honest I almost didn't buy them because of it. So glad I gave it a shot! I use these primarily for running, trail running, and hiking. Almost immediately after I begin the tightness is gone and by the time I'm finished they fit like a second skin. I absolutely love the tactile feel you get while wearing these. I can feel every rock and twig but the vibram sole does a great job protecting my foot from puncture or abrasion. I also love how light they are. We get so used to clunking around in normal shoes that some of us never know what it's like to be barefoot anymore. I almost chose some thin sandals over these but the concern of getting pebbles under my foot led me to these and I have no regrets. They fit well, they are soft and comfortable (no blisters here), and flashy!

I've had this pair for a couple of months now. I also have the original leather FiveFingers and the TrekSport. They do stretch out a bit with a month's use. I found the lacing system more fussy than the TrekSport's Velcro strap. The liner also has a scratchy feel, especially in the heel area. The TrekSport's suede heel pad was more comfortable. I do like the new soles, which are sticky and have a better grip than the TrekSport's. The liner inside the smaller toes has some rough seams that weren't comfortable at first, but did wear in. All said, I would buy these again, but would really love the TrekSport upper on the Spyridon sole. The heel loops need better stitching. One is already coming loose and I've sewn it back on.

These are my fourth pair of Five Fingers (KMD Sport, TrekSport Sandals, KMD Sport LS and Spyridon MR’s). They have some very good qualities and one not so great. I bought these after a failed experiment with TrekSport Sandals to use as my primary hikers. While the sandals have the same thicker sole as the regular TrekSports which is great for blocking sharp rocks from destroying the bottoms of your feet they have open sections on the sides (sandals, get it?) which allow far too much dirt and stuff in on the trail for these to be functional on any kind of non-paved surface. I have resisted the regular TrekSports as I prefer the new lacing system showing up on more and more models. I decided to give the Spyridon MR’s a try as they have the traction of the TrekSport and a spiderweb-diffusion sole to absorb sharp object impacts without being as thick. I’ve owned them for about a month and have used them on several relatively flat trails with a combination of rock, loose dirt, hard pack and sand. I also took them on an butt kicking 14 miler of 3000 feet of elevation gain (and descent) on rock and loose dirt. First off, the grip is OUTSTANDING! On every conceivable surface they bite and absolutely do not slip or slide. Secondly, the spiderweb design in the sole to diffuse the impact of sharp objects works pretty well but is not nearly the armor that the TrekSport is. Having said that, this represents a dichotomy: these have much better ground feel and allow far greater tactile response from your toes as the sole is not the immoveable force found on the TrekSports. Although the Treks have separate toes which is better than shoes one loses a great deal of the ground feedback that makes the whole barefoot paradigm so appealing. Having hiked a few times in my KMD’s I can tell you that the Spyridons offer considerably better underfoot protection on the trail than they do. Given the two options I choose the Spyridons over the TrekSports and the better connection between me and the surface below my feet. Thirdly, the cocoon technology is pretty sweet. These really do envelope your foot and hold it in place. The only real drawback for me is that compared to the other models I own and those I’ve tried on these have more internal volume. While tightening the laces completely eliminates that volume over the instep and around the heel it doesn’t do anything for the toes. There is a bit of a strange sensation as my toes have some room to swim within each toe pocket. I tried one size down to see if that might eliminate this issue but they crushed my toes lengthwise so no go. This is not a deal breaker for me and has not effected their functionality but I do wonder if blisters might be an issue on a long, multi-day journey. All in all, I would give these a 4.5 out of 5 and would recommend these.

I bought the size 41 Spyridon MR and my foot had measured just over 9 inches. The fit is good, and I don't think any size smaller would be possible. I've ran in them 3 times, 1 mile each doing murder on my calves. Only light hikes so far and they feel great on the hikes.
