    The REI Member Dividend

The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.

Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.

Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

    Marmot Starlight 1P Tentis rated2.5out of5by2.
Rated1out of5byfromMy experience with the Starlight 1P tentIn preparation for a recent backpacking trip in Canyonlands (beginning of April) I decided to give this tent a try. I used it for 4 consecutive nights. It's main advantages are that it is light, compact and can be packed quickly. However, the weather turned out to be much colder than expected with some rain (whereas the forecast called for 0% precipitation). I quickly regretted my purchase. My first night was relatively ok but the remaining nights where totally different. The temperature went below freezing and the resulting large temperature gradient between the inside and the outside of the tent caused heavy condensation. This was a major problem even if it is not surprising for a single walled tent. I also found that in order to minimize the contact with your sleeping bag and the tent wall you have to remain in the same position (lying on your back) and avoid any movement. I usually move a lot when I sleep and I simply cannot stay on my back for very long. I am not a huge person (5'10/170 lbs) but when I was on my side the sleeping bag was touching the roof of the tent (at hip level). It was impossible to avoid it. In addition I like to move my legs freely but this was also not possible, the space is too restricted. All in all I was not at all comfortable and was continuously trying to avoid my sleeping bag from getting wet. Luckily I own a Marmot Gore Tex shell and used it (to some extend) over my sleeping bag to protect it. This is the first time I'm not happy with a Marmot product and I honestly do not recommend it. There is probably a better solution out there if you are looking for something light to carry.

Rated4out of5byfromGood tent/bivy hybridWhen I was looking for a solo tent, I found myself looking at expensive, lightweight one person tents that had plenty of space, or cheaper bivy sacks that offered very little space at all. Enter the Marmot Starlight 1p tent that is really like a tent/bivy hybrid. I found I had plenty of room under the vestibule for a 50L pack and a few other items. I used it two nights along the Blue Ridge Parkway, one with light rain. The rainfly/vestibule kept me and my gear dry, but for some minor condensation. Not a lot of excess room, so make sure to stake out the tent taut and secure to maximize space and ventilation. A little tricky to get in and out, but cozy enough once you do get nestled in.
