by fromGreat all around XC skis Used them for a week in the White Mountains in NH. Mainly, the partial metal edges give added control and confidence on the icy downhills typical in New England. Yet they still turn well because both ends of the ski have wooden edges. They have great glide yet climb surprisingly well: I just went straight up slopes others had to herringbone on. Most of my skiing was on groomed trails, and they fit into the groomed tracks. But they also worked well on a 8 mile excursion on snowmobile trails and on a 10 mile run on ungroomed terrain (skiing in someone's tracks some of the way). I'm not aware of any other manufacturers that make skis with partial metal edges. I suspect next year others will follow suit as the OT's are VERY popular in the area where I was.

by fromReally Light Great skis. Use these on flat Minnesota Lakes in the winter. They are really a perfect ski for flat unbroken trails ranging from deep powder to ice. Fat like a backcountry ski so it floats on deep snow. Metal edges so it grips when the snow on the lakes drifts and crusts. But really light compared to my full metal edge skis but with no real loss in performance. Probably too fat for much groomed trail skiing, but possible.
