Burton Mission Snowboard Bindings - 2013/2014 is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Go Small! I have been riding for a lot of years, and have had several pairs of Mission Bindings over the seasons. This was probably my 4th or 5th pair, and I have always gone with the Missions because they're lightweight, durable, and awesome bindings for the price. I know that what I'm getting is going to be functional and easy to find parts for should I need them (which has happened, but rarely). Most of the bindings have had, with no exaggeration, at least a couple hundred days on them by the time they're ready to be retired. My last pair are no exception, but after replacing a couple of straps and watching the buckles start to wear out this season, I thought I'd go ahead and get some new ones. The new generation is certainly much different than my Missions of past. The high back is a lot higher, the bindings seem bulkier and heavier, and the sizing seems to be a off -- which I would say is my biggest complaint. I have an older pair of size 11 Burton Sabbaths, which are not small boots. The sizing chart claims that the L binding is good for 10 and up. When I put the bindings on my board I messed with them for a couple of hours trying to get everything set right. But even with the baseplates pushed as far to the toe edge of the board as they would go, my heels were still hanging off the back quite a bit, while the toes were barely hitting the edge. I rode with them for a couple of hours but everything was off due to the way the bindings were mounted/designed. I also wasn't a big fan of the high backs and the way Burton changed the forward lean design. I like the high backs to fit to the shape of my boot. On the older models you simply cranked up the adjustment and everything stayed put. On the new ones you turn a little knob and I guess part of the binding goes forward a bit, but most of the back seems to just stick straight up no matter how far you turn the dial. Finally, riding with them for a couple of hours was downright painful. I'm not sure how the heel cup on these differs from the old models, but one of my heels was experiencing some pretty good discomfort when turning on my toes. I do love Burton products and have always ridden Burton boots and bindings. These Missions, however, just weren't at all what I was hoping for or expecting.
