These Born Beryl boots are the most incredibly comfortable boots I've ever worn or owned. (I own several pairs of boots and have tried on many, many others!)
The heel height is 1 and 1/2 inches, which is just enough to give the boots a touch of dressiness but low enough that they're as easy and natural to walk in as the most comfortable walking shoes imaginable. They also have plenty of room in the toes, which is delightful. The two buckles are adjustable, not just for show, which I appreciate, because my insteps are low, so being able to tighten the buckles over the instep adds to the already amazingly wonderful fit.
I generally think of my feet as being size 9 or even 9.5, and a size 40 in European sizing. These boots are sized a bit differently than is often the case: they're sized as 8.5 in US sizing, but they're 40 in European sizing. So if you're ordering these boots online, be aware of this anomaly. I'd say they're true to the European sizing schema, but not to US sizing standards. (They feel like a true size 40, but large for an 8.5.) The width is M/W, which feels right, but by no means too wide. I don't have particularly wide feet, but these M/W boots fit my feet perfectly both in the heel (not too wide) and the width of the instep and toes.
I've been wearing them with liner socks. As the season gets colder I'll wear them with either leggings and light socks or stretchy "smartwool" tights, and with jeans, capris, and skirts.
I'm so thrilled by these boots! After I bought them at my local REI store, I immediately put them on and went out for an hour and a half long walk. They were as perfectly comfortable at the end of the walk as they were at the beginnning. Miraculous, impeccable, seriously gorgeous boots!
